Act like an Entrepreneur, Think like a Monk
Today, I want to discuss a concept that has been gaining popularity among entrepreneurs lately. Ever heard about "Monk mode?"
Well, let’s talk about it!
Monk mode refers to a state of intense focus and discipline in which an individual minimizes all distractions and eliminates all unnecessary activities to focus on ONE task for a specified period of time. The idea is to map out your goals and simplify your life to the point where you can fully focus without any distractions.
Monk mode is not just for monks or spiritual seekers; it's a concept that can be applied to any aspect of life, including entrepreneurship. In fact, many successful entrepreneurs have used monk mode to help them achieve their goals and report astounding success.
Here’s how I personally use Monk mode to improve my focus and crush my goals:
1. I set specific goals
One of the key aspects of monk mode is setting specific goals; if you do not have a clear idea of what you want to work on you’ll never get there. To make this task easier, I define exactly what I want to achieve and then break it down into smaller, actionable steps. That is the first step.
2. Eliminate distractions
The second step is to eliminate all distractions. Make a list of all the things that distract you during work hours and decide how to avoid them. This includes everything from social media to checking emails and taking unnecessary meetings. I personally leave my smartphone in another room to ensure that I never get distracted by social media or when a new message pops up on my messaging app. By doing this, I free up more time and energy to focus on the things that matter. I find that I achieve my goals much faster too.
3. Block out chunks of time
I dedicate a specific amount of time to work on a project and resolve to have no distractions during that period of time. I plan out some time for a short break afterward and then resume working within a specified time block.
4. Create a routine
Establishing a routine is crucial for monk mode. This means having a set schedule for your day, including specific times for work, exercise, and rest. By having a routine, I find that you can create a sense of structure and stability in your life, which helps you stay focused and motivated.
5. Take breaks
Just like work, even breaks have to be planned out in Monk mode. Dedicate a specific amount of time to taking breaks; get back to work immediately after it is over.
I advise that you do something productive during your breaks to avoid getting out of that state of flow. Engage in activities like listening to soft music or a crossword puzzle instead of social media. Breaking focus by engaging in high-dopamine activities like scrolling through social media makes it incredibly difficult to get back to work.
6. Practice mindfulness
I have come to find that mindfulness is another important aspect of Monk mode. This means being fully present in the moment. By practicing mindfulness, you can train your mind to focus on the task at hand and avoid getting distracted.
7. Take care of yourself
Finally, it's important to take care of yourself during Monk mode. This means eating at the right time, prioritizing sleep and exercise, and taking breaks on schedule (or when you need them).
In conclusion, Monk mode is a powerful tool that I have used to 10x my productivity. By setting specific goals, blocking out chunks of time, eliminating distractions, taking small breaks, creating a routine, practicing mindfulness, and taking care of yourself, you too can harness the power of Monk mode and reap massive results!
